John Stoddard Cancer Center buys BSD-500 Hyperthermia system

MDBR Staff Writer Published 17 April 2012

The US based John Stoddard Cancer Center has purchased BSD Medical's BSD-500 Hyperthermia system.

Stoddard Cancer Center is a technologically diverse radiation oncology department which provides radiation oncology and ancillary services.

The BSD-500 system delivers noninvasive (external) hyperthermia by using antennas that are inserted into the tumor or interstitial hyperthermia.

The BSD-500 has obtained the US Food and Drug Administration's pre-market approval for the use of hyperthermia alone or in conjunction with radiation therapy for the treatment of certain tumors.

BSD Medical president Harold Wolcott said clinical studies have shown that hyperthermia delivered using the BSD-500 can increase the effectiveness of radiation therapy without increase in toxicity for certain tumors.
