MDBR Staff Writer Published 08 February 2017

Merit Medical Systems has acquired critical care business from Argon Medical Devices for an undisclosed sum.

The deal also includes Argon’s manufacturing facility in Yishun of Singapore, as well as related commercial operations in Europe and Japan.

Argon plans to now focus only on its interventional business across the globe.

Argon’s critical care platform includes products such as ArgoTrans accessories, ArgoTrans transducers, cardiac output injectate kits, DTXPlus accessories and DTXPlus blood pressure transducers.

The platform also includes KeepSafe blood sample kits, Safedraw blood sample kits and accessories, as well as thermodilution and pulomonary artery catheters.

Merit Medical has also purchased certain products from another firm Catheter Connections.

Argon Medical Devices president George Leondis said: “The divestiture of the non-strategic, Critical Care business, is a further step toward concentrating attention of the entire business on our higher growth, Interventional portfolio.”

Merit Medical chairman Fred Lampropoulos said: “These product acquisitions broaden Merit’s product offering, expand Merit’s geographic presence, and support our goal of expanding our value proposition to our hospital customers globally.”

Argon produces and markets single-use specialty medical devices for interventional procedures. Some of the firm’s products include Elite retrievable IVC filter, Cleaner and Cleaner15 rotational thrombectomy systems, BioPince full-core biopsy instrument and others.

Merit Medical develops, manufactures and distributes disposable medical devices, which are used in interventional, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Its products are mostly used in cardiology, radiology and endoscopy procedures.
